The one-sentence challenge: clarifying your offer

I take your genius thoughts and ideas, and turn them into words that make you more money.

That is what I do, summed up into one very clear, straightforward sentence that makes sense to the average person.

Can you sum up what you do into one sentence?

If you struggle with doing this, it’s very likely that your ideal clients are not fully understanding what’s in it for them.

And this is costing you sales - every single day.

Now, this is not my way of saying “ha! Gotcha!” if you find it difficult to articulate what you do for your clients. This problem is so common. Most business owners find it hard.

And that’s why I’m talking to you about this today.

Cos here’s the thing: for us online business owners, our words are the first impression and the last word in converting interest into action.

If you're forcing your audience to perform mental gymnastics to understand how you can help them, you've already lost them. You literally have a few seconds to capture their attention. So, the solution is to use straightforward, relatable language that speaks directly to their needs, pains, and desires.

Read the below before/after examples:

  • Hairdresser
    • BEFORE “I specialise in the art of cranial aesthetics, leveraging avant-garde techniques to redefine your personal brand through your follicular presentation.”
    • AFTER: "I give your hair a new look that boosts your confidence and truly reflects who you are."
  • Weight loss coach
    • BEFORE “I facilitate a holistic journey towards wellness, integrating bespoke nutritional strategies and innovative physical activity paradigms for optimised corporeal metamorphosis.”
    • AFTER “II help you live healthier, lose weight, and feel more energised.”
  • Marriage counsellor
    • BEFORE “I employ advanced psychotherapeutic methodologies to navigate the intricacies of interpersonal dynamics, fostering a paradigm shift towards enhanced conjugal synergy.”
    • AFTER "I help couples communicate better, strengthening their bond and rekindling their connection."

The ‘before’ examples might sound fancy and sophisticated, but they’re likely to leave your audience puzzled, asking, “but what do you actually do?”

The ‘after’ versions are immediately understandable, answering the all-important question, “what’s in it for me?” without any need for translation.

When your audience instantly gets how you can improve their lives, they’re far more likely to take the next step with you.
